Eligibility Rules for T-Ball and Farm Leagues 2015

Dear Berlin Little League Parents of players Ages 6-9 :

The Age Eligibility instituted by Little League International for the Year 2015 has caused some confusion with the placement of two groups in the Berlin Little League.  There are two groups of players largely affected by the change in the age qualifications.  As a League we have worked over the last few days to come to a solution that benefits not only our players and their needs, but the entire Berlin Little League as well.  There were several factors that were considered in making this decision, not least of all is the safety of our players.

We acknowledge the confusion the change in age has caused this season.  There was misinformation given at in person sign ups.  Through no fault on anyones part. However,  once we looked at the league as a whole, rules had to be implemented for the safety and fairness of our players. The President of the League Bill Petit, The Berlin Little League Safety Officer and the T-ball, Farm League and Minor Reps have come together to institute the following rules for the two groups affected by the changes in the age qualifications.

T-ball age 6/7.  The players that did not qualify for age 6 T-Ball Last Season 2014 in Berlin Little League because under last years eligibility they were considered to young to play. There is a group under the new age qualifications that are now considered baseball 7, even though they were not able to play last year and were considered baseball 5.  These players MUST play one season of T-ball.  If your player is considered baseball 7 and played T-ball in another town then they must show proof that they played in order to be eligible to move up to Farm year one.

Farm League Year one : 7/8 That played in T-Ball Last 2014 Spring Season are freshman year Farm (Year one) .

Farm League Second Year Returning Players : 8/9  These players were players considered baseball 7 last year season 2014 and by the new age qualifications are considered baseball 9 this season 2015.  This group of players MUST complete their second year of Farm League.  The President of the League, Safety Officer, Minor Rep and Farm League Rep looked at the two Leagues and came to this decision. This group of players is greatly affected by the age change.  In order to ensure these players get the skills, playing time and instruction they need, a few changes in the  Farm league have been made.

- the Farm League will attempt to use a pitching machine in order to guarantee the same velocity and accuracy for the players.

-Mid Season 2015 the Returning 8/9 second year (senior players) will begin to pitch to ONLY other returning second year/senior players during game play.  The first year/freshman players will continue to  use the pitching machine. The Farm League Rep will bring in outside help to instruct our senior players on the correct pitching mechanics to ensure their safety and prepare them for a higher level of play. These rules were made to allow our senior players an opportunity to grow while still ensuring the safety of our freshman players in the Farm League.

The Above Rules are for the 2015 Season Only. Any Changes needed for the following season will be addressed before the 2016 season is underway.

The League understands the confusion and frustration the age change has created.  We apologize for any misunderstanding or inconvenience this has caused as we moved through this season's registration. We ask for patience and understanding as the above rules were implemented to ensure the safety and betterment of our entire league, not just one player.

Any questions or concerns should be addressed to the appropriate league rep. Please understand that no exceptions can be made in order to ensure fairness to all the players in Berlin Little League.

Thank You in Advance for your understanding.

2015 Age Chart for Little League

As a result of this recent adjustment to the implementation strategy, effective immediately, any player born on or after January 1, 2006 who will turn the ages of 4-9 during the 2015 calendar year will be eligible to participate in a local Little League program and will use the new age determination date of December 31 for the reminder of their Little League career. Players will still be assigned to a division based on local league divisional structure.

JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUN JUL AUG SEP OCT NOV DEC AGE
2011 2011 2011 2011 2011 2011 2011 2011 2011 2011 2011 2011 4
2010 2010 2010 2010 2010 2010 2010 2010 2010 2010 2010 2010 5

2006 2006 2006 2006 2006 2006 2006 2006 2006 2006 2006 2006 9

Consequently, players born prior to January 1, 2006 will continue to utilize the current age determination date of April 30 for the 2015, 2016, and 2017 seasons. In 2018 all players born prior to January 1, 2006 will begin utilizing December 31 as their age determination date. The majority of concerns will surround the fact that a 2015 league age nine (9) year old will be 10 in 2016, 11 in 2017, but in 2018 will effectively be league age 13 and will advance out of the major league division. All players represented within the chart below will all use the December 31 date beginning in the 2018 season.

As stated, with this implementation strategy adjustment the impact on our players will be reduced, with the exception of a marginal impact on players currently participating in the very early stages of their Little League career. Furthermore, our continued focus on fun, fitness and fundamentals at the Tee Ball Division will assist local leagues as they look to provide a smooth transition to the Coach/Machine Pitch divisions of play while still developing a passion for the game as well as focusing on skill development.
